17 Mar COVID-19 Update: We are making some changes, but for the moment it’s business as usual….
To our DSS Family,
There are no words to describe the current situation that we find ourselves in.
The impact that COVID-19 is having on the community, both local and globally…it’s mammoth. With the situation currently changing, we are entering into uncharted territory. For now, all we can do is keep moving forward and adapting to the change as it comes at us – one step at a time.
There is a small silver lining… For the moment, we still have diving, spearing and free diving! We still have our Vitamin Sea – and the good news is, as far as we are aware, you can’t catch it underwater.
Nevertheless before we get in the water, there are some extra precautions that we at Dive Spear and Sport will be taking to maintain the health and safety of our customers and staff. We want to ensure that we do our part to minimise the spread. Thus we have increased or added a number of new precautions and ask that you, our awesome diving community, do your part to help us out.
These new measures have been put in place effective immediately:
The team is getting SUPER domesticated…..
- While Dive Spear and Sport has always maintained a hygienic environment, we will increase our cleaning to ensure that all surfaces, handles, terminals and frequently touched surfaces throughout retail and the training centre are disinfected throughout the day.
- All masks used for mask fitting will be cleaned before and after every fitting by a member of staff using disinfectant wipes.
- The cleaning of rental gear will be increased to ensure the highest level of disinfecting. We apologise if the regulators and snorkels taste “disinfectanty” but that’s the trade off we’re afraid. You always have the option to purchase your own if you don’t have them already.
We have a number of other measures to minimise the spread, that can be read on our COVID-19 Management Plan on the website.
Not wanting to commit to activities right now? We get it, so we’re waiving re-booking fees.
For the immediate future, any re-booking due to illness or concerns around COVID-19 will be permitted without penalty. We do however request the courtesy of communication should you not be attending… Any “no-shows” will incur the same penalties as usual.
We love you but…
If you have been unwell, have any flu like symptoms, have travelled in the last two weeks or have been in contact with a person with, or under investigation for COVID-19; we ask that you do not come into the centre or on board the boat. We appreciate your support always, but ask that you help us minimise the risk to our other divers, patrons and staff.
We also request that you communicate with our team and other divers with respect and love. We know it’s a trying time and everyone is stressed; but we are all here to enjoy the sport. Aggression or abuse to any member of our dive and spear family, staff or customers, will not be tolerated.
Business as usual…
All this aside, for now it’s business as usual. We will continue to operate as normal with these extra precautions until told otherwise. We don’t know about you guys, but we NEED our Vitamin Sea to calm our minds and lower the anxiety and stress in this devastating and unknown climate we find ourselves in.
If you can – keep active, keep diving and keep supporting your local dive centre… whether it be us, or one of our fellow Sydney or Australian centres. The dive industry nationwide has been hit incredibly hard by the recent fires, floods, weather and now the pandemic, we all need your support right now to keep this industry we all love alive. Take this time to reconnect with the sea, it may just give you the calm and heads pace to survive this tumultuous time.
We will continue to monitor the situation and make necessary updates as required. Head to our website for our full COVID-19 Management Plan, which will be updated as more information is released. In the meantime, if you have any questions, concerns or ideas of things we can do during this strange time, please don’t hesitate to get in touch on [email protected] on (02) 9999 3903.
We have a lot of great dives coming up this weekend and a tech dive on Thursday, with more coming as we lead into april. Keep an eye on our calendar and for the time being, keep diving! We can’t wait to see you out there soon!
Stay safe guys!
From Carmen and the whole team at Dive Spear and Sport.
