Advance your knowledge and brush up your skills with an Advanced Adventure Diver and Deep Diver. Our Advanced Adventure course is coupled with the Deep Diver course meaning that by the end of your weekend of training, you will be certified to dive to 40m!
This is one of the more popular dive courses after Open Water Diver. The Advanced Adventure Diver Course allows you to broaden your experience in the water, giving you experience in five specialties. Here at Dive Spear and Sport, those specialties are Deep, Navigation, Wreck, Boat and Advanced Buoyancy with Advanced Buoyancy being replaced by Dry Suit Diver in winter, to give our divers an understanding of dry suits and the benefits in cooler water.
This isn’t a budget course or cutting corners. This is an intensive weekend of training, coupled with some theory during the week to prepare you to dive to depth. This course has been designed by an agency renowned for its excellent technical courses and will ensure that you understand, execute and feel comfortable with the theory and procedures required for deep diving.
Over the course of three days, you will do four boat dives and two shore dives. This will include your advanced dives of Navigation, Advanced Buoyancy, Boat Diver, Dry Suit, Deep Diver AND THEN your final dive on the course will be your second dive required for the Deep Diver certification. By the end of the course, you will have two certifications and the recreational diving world is your oyster!
How It Works
Please note that the following is open to change; your instructor will be in touch to confirm course structure and times.
Prior to starting the course, you will do some online learning. This will take between 3-6 hours on average.
Sunday: 7 am – 2 pm
You will meet your instructor at the Dive Spear & Sport Centre to ensure paperwork in-order and be outfitted with the appropriate rental gear.
You will start Day 1 of diving consisting of two local boat dives departing from Bayview Anchorage. The focus of the dives will be on the principles of being a Boat Diver and Underwater Navigation. Upon completion of dives, you will return to Dive Spear and Sport to complete logbooks and debrief.
The day will conclude with a review of your Deep Diver Specialty eLearning.
Friday: 5 pm – 6.30 pm (ONLY for SDI Computer Nitrox Diver Course)
You will meet your instructor at the Dive Spear & Sport Centre to review your Nitrox Diver eLearning and develop practical O2 planning and analysis skills. You will need to demonstrate the O2 analysis of the 2x cylinders >21%FO2 that you will be using for your Deep Diver Specialty on the following day.
Saturday: 8 am – 3 pm
You will start Day 2 of diving. Today will consist of two dives off the Dive Spear and Sport boat on The Ex-HMAS Adelaide. That last dive of this day will be the final dive of your Deep Diver certification.
Upon completion of dives, you will return to Dive Spear and Sport to complete logbooks and certification as a Deep Diver, permitting you to dive to 40m.
Sunday: 3 pm – 8 pm
You will start Day 3 of diving. Today will consist of a pool session focusing on principles of Advanced Buoyancy and concluded with an evening dive at a local site as a Night Diver.
At this point, if you have satisfied course requirements and instructor expectations you will now be Advanced Adventure and Deep Diver Specialty certified (as well as Nitrox if chosen)!
