Here at Dive Spear and Sport, we offer a dive course for the next generation. Learning to dive, we want you to ACTUALLY learn to dive underwater, not just learn how to survive underwater. You should leave your course buzzing to get into the water again – and why wouldn’t you? The water is an amazing ecosystem that needs to be experienced in it all its glory – under the surface!
Experience the beauty of coral reefs, dive with sharks, navigate through caves or experience true history underwater on some of the world’s wrecks. No matter what you want to do, this is where your journey starts and Dive Spear and Sport will help you get there with an Open Water Course!
How It Works
Please note that the following structure reflects that of our ‘Boat Dives Included’ Open Water Course Option. In this course, if it arises that the boat is unable to go out due to conditions or unforeseen circumstances shore diving will be done instead. You will be credited a boat dive (excluding gear hire) RRP $120.00.
Your instructor will be in touch to confirm course structure and times.
Prior to starting the course, you will do some online learning. This will take between 3-6 hours on average.
Sunday: 8 am – 1 pm
The first day will start with a quick revision of your theory, followed by skills in the pool. At this time, you will be equipped with your diving gear for the next three course days.
Saturday: 8 am – 1 pm
Your Open Water Dives One and Two will be conducted from shore. The dive site will be decided on the week of the course depending on conditions.
Sunday: 8 am – 2 pm
Your Open Water Dives Three and Four will be conducted from the Dive, Spear and Sport boat. The dives will be decided on the week of the course depending on conditions.
Following this, you will return to the Dive Spear & Sport Centre to sign logbooks and debrief. If at this point, you have satisfied course requirements and instructor expectations you will be certified as an Open Water Scuba Diver!
